- 1967 - Denver gets a charter American Basketball Association franchise when owners in Kansas City fail to secure an arena deal. The Denver Larks soon became the Denver Rockets and later became the Denver Nuggets.
- 1973 - Boston’s John Havlicek (above) connects on 24 field goals, an NBA Playoff record he shares with Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan, as the Celtics defeat Atlanta,134-109, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Havlicek finishes the game with 54 points.
- 1985 - Above: Villanova--never ranked in the top 40 all season--faces #1 ranked Georgetown for the NCAA Championship. The Wildcats play a near-perfect game and win, 66-64, to become the lowest-seeded (#8) champ in tournament history.
- 1991 - It took six trips to the Final Four for Duke Blue Devils Coach Mike Krzyzewski, but they finally win their first NCAA Championship, defeating Kansas, 72-65, in the title game at Indianapolis.
