- 1914 - Right: LeRoy Edwards, one of the most dominating scorers in professional ball in the 1930s and 1940s, is born in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
- 1967 - The Philadelphia 76ers defeat Boston, 140-116, in Game 5 of the Eastern Division Finals, ending the Celtics’ eight-year reign as NBA champions. The Sixers would go on to take the NBA title, and in 1980 they would be voted the greatest team in league history.
- 1981 - Michael Jordan sinks two free throws with 11 seconds remaining in the McDonald's All-American High School Basketball game to give the East a 96-95 win. His game-high 30 points remains a series record.
- 2006 - Jeff Capel III is named the 12th men’s basketball head coach at Oklahoma University after a three-year stint at Virginia Commonwealth, becoming, at 30 years of age, the youngest head coach in NCAA Division I men’s basketball.
