- 1947 - (Right:) Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, is born in New York City. He will grow up to be one of the most dominating players in collegiate and NBA basketball history.
- 1947 - In the opening game of the first Basketball Association of America Finals, the Philadelphia Warriors defeat the Chicago Stags, 84-71.
- 1987 - Michael Jordan becomes the first player since Wilt Chamberlain (1962-63) to score 3,000 points in a season.
- 1996 - The Chicago Bulls better the 1972 Los Angeles Lakers NBA record of 69 wins in one season with an 86-80 victory at Milwaukee. Chicago finishes the season with 72 wins and only 10 losses.
