- 1927 - Hall of Famer Harry Gallatin (right), who represented the New York Knicks in seven NBA All-Star Games, is born in Roxana, Illinois.
- 1950 - Harold Hunter signs a contract with the Washington Capitols. He is the first African American to sign an NBA contract. He never plays in an NBA game, however, as he is cut in training camp.
- 1984 - The New Jersey Nets surprise the highly-favored defending champion Philadelphia 76ers in the First Round of the 1984 NBA Playoffs, winning the deciding Game 5 by a 101-98 score at the Spectrum in Philadelphia.
- 1988 - The NBA adds a third referee to the league’s officiating crews for the 1988-89 season.
