- 1965 - Reggie Miller, who collected 25,279 points in 18 NBA seasons (all with the Indiana Pacers), is born in Riverside, California.
- 1970 - Los Angeles Lakers guard Jerry West hits a 60-foot desperation shot at the buzzer to tie Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks. In overtime, however, the Lakers score just six points and lose, 111-108.
- 1999 - The WNBA and the Women's National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) announce the league's first collective bargaining agreement -- a first of its kind in women's team sports.
