- 1922 - (Above) In their only complete season in the Eastern League the New York Celtics (also known as the Original Celtics) defeat the Trenton Potters, 26-22, to win the championship series two games to one.
- 1968 - Senegal becomes the first sub-Saharan country to win the FIBA Africa Championship, beating defending champ Morocco, 67-60.
- 1991 - Isiah Thomas of Detroit scores 16 points in the Pistons’ 101-88 road loss at New York, surpassing the 15,000 point mark for his career.
- 1996 - Charlotte’s Robert Parish became the NBA’s all-time leader in games played, surpassing the previous record of 1,560 set by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Parish went on to play a record 1,611 games in his career.
- 1998 - Michael Jordan becomes the first player in history to be selected to the NBA All-Defensive First Team nine times.
