- 1947 - Hall of Fame Coach Cathy Rush, who led the Immaculata Mighty Macs to three consecutive women's collegiate national championships, is born in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
- 1956 - The Philadelphia Warriors behind hot-shooting Paul Arizin, whip the Fort Wayne Pistons, 4 games to 1 to clinch the 10th NBA Championship. Arizin averaged 28.9 PPG in the playoffs, while teammate Neil Johnston pulled down 14.3 RPG.
- 1959 - Boston Celtics playmaker Bob Cousy (above) dishes off for 19 assists, at the time tying an NBA Playoff record, as the Celtics defeat Minneapolis, 123-110, en route to a four-game sweep of the Lakers in the NBA Finals.
- 1977 - After a 114-100 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, Indiana Pacer Don Buse finishes the season with 8.5 assists per game and 3.5 steals per game, leading the NBA in both categories. Buse thus duplicates his feat of the previous season when he led the ABA in both steals (346) and assists (689).
- 2001 - The Houston Rockets defeat the Atlanta Hawks, 110-97, to become the first NBA team in 18 years to sweep an entire division. The Rockets won all 16 games against Central Division opponents, becoming the first team to sweep a division since the 1982-83 Los Angeles Lakers swept all 12 games against the Central Division.
