- 1942 - ABA All-Star Bob Netolicky is born in San Francisco, California.
- 1952 - At the Helsinki Olympics the USA defeats the Soviet Union, 36-25, in the gold medal game. High scorers for the US were Clyde Lovellette (9 points) and Bob Kurland (8).
- 1997 - Utah Jazz forward Karl Malone demonstrates his basketball skills and held a clinic for 200 teenagers in Taiwan. Forward Grant Hill of the Detroit Pistons heads to Asia for the first time to promote basketball in Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Philippines.
- 2005 - The largest trade in NBA history is completed, as five teams combine to swap 13 players. This deal brings Antoine Walker and Jason Williams to the Miami Heat.
