Becky Hammon

Becky Hammon is a guard playing for the WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars. She was traded to San Antonio during the 2007 WNBA Draft from the New York Liberty for a second round pick in 2008 as well as the second overall first round pick in the 2007 Draft, Jessica Davenport. Prior to the trade, she had played eight seasons for the Liberty, earning All-WNBA Second Team honors in 2005. She was named to WNBA All-Star team in 2003, 2005 and 2007.
She has also played for the Tennessee Fury of the NWBL, leading the league in scoring in 2003, before moving to the Colorado Chill in 2004. She led the Chill to two NWBL championships and was named MVP of the league in 2006.
She has also played in the Spanish League for Rivas Futura.
Hammon is from Rapid City, South Dakota--the Black Hills. She was named South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year in 1995 and South Dakota Ms. Basketball in 1994. At Stevens High School she averaged 26.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a senior. She attended Colorado State where she led the Rams to the Sweet Sixteen in their first NCAA Division I Women's Tournament.
On August 30, 2007 she set a WNBA playoff record with 16 3-point field goal attempts and tied a playoff record by making seven of them. Despite her 32-point performance, the Phoenix Mercury prevailed, 102-100 in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.
In 2006, Hammon began working during the WNBA offseason as a sideline reporter for ESPN telecasts of NBA basketball games.
