Bradley Center
From Hoopedia
Home sweet home… that’s how the 2006-07 Milwaukee Bucks will refer to the Bradley Center for the 19th straight season!
The 20,000-seat sports and entertainment facility, acclaimed as one of the finest arenas in the country, opened on October 1, 1988. The $91 million structure was a gift to the Milwaukee community and State of Wisconsin from the late Jane Bradley Pettit and her husband, Lloyd, in honor of her father, Harry Lynde Bradley. Mr. Bradley was one of the founders of the Allen-Bradley Co., a national manufacturer of electrical controls headquartered in Milwaukee (now a subsidiary of Rockwell International).
The Bradley Center covers more than one square city block and rises to a height of 13 stories. The exterior is clad in polished and flame-treated South Dakota granite. The same red-pink granite is used in the pedestals for the columns in the twin, glass-enclosed, 60-foot-high atriums. The interior of the facility is divided into four quadrants and features 16 escalators, 12 concession stands with closed circuit televisions, eight merchandise stands and 28 restrooms (all handicap-accessible).
The main arena consists of three levels of seating. Seating on the first concourse slopes down 23 rows from the concourse entrances to the edge of the playing surface and can accommodate approximately 7,200 people. A single row of suites encircles the entire arena directly above the first concourse and just 30 feet above floor level. Access to this area is limited to suite holders and their guests. The third concourse, slightly concave in its design, rises 21 rows to a height of approximately 85 feet. The suite level and third concourse seat a total of 11,500 fans.
Two of the more popular seating choices underwent major remodeling projects during the summer of 2006. Club Cambria and the Courtside Club will both feature stunning new decors that are certain to please!
Club Cambria, at Bradley Center Suites, is Milwaukee's most unique sports experience. This club, located on the north end of the suite level spans the width of 10 traditional suites, provides the ultimate setting for interacting with guests and enjoying Bucks basketball while indulging in the style and comfort of this private environment.
Courtside Club, a completely redesigned space in the southwest quadrant of the first level, offers the ultimate in quality service in a relaxing atmosphere, amidst the thrills of NBA action! Courtside Club Lounge including bar, lounge area with flat screen TVs and restrooms, private coat check and more. Wait-staff will provide in-seat food and beverage service to Courtside Club members.
Behind the scenes, the latest in computerized and electronic equipment controls the heating, air conditioning, ventilation, security and communications systems for the building. Most of these functions are monitored from a central control room on the ground floor. The facility also contains a unique street-level entry that allows semi-trailers to be driven inside the building for convenient unloading and loading.
State-of-the-art electronics and interior circuitry also assist the media in covering events at the Bradley Center. As many as four television stations are able to telecast simultaneously from any of three locations in the arena. In addition, members of the media may transmit as well as receive information within the building.
The Bradley Center is also home to the Marquette University Men’s Basketball team and the Milwaukee Admirals professional hockey team. But sporting contests are not the building’s only attractions. The facility hosts a variety of other entertainment events including concerts, figure skating and family shows.
The Bradley Center was designed by Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum of Kansas City, Missouri, and Venture Architects, which was a joint venture between the Milwaukee architectural firms of Kahler Slater, Torphy Architects and the Zimmerman Design Group.
