Bruce Drake

Bruce Drake (December 5, 1905December 4, 1983) was a college men's basketball coach. The Gentry, Texas native was head coach at the University of Oklahoma between 1938 and 1955, compiling a 200-181 record. His teams won five Big 6 conference championships (1939, 1949, 1942, 1944, 1947) and one Big 7 title (1949). Drake developed the "Shuffle Offense," also called the "Drake Offense". The "Bruce Drake Award" is presented annually to recognize Oklahoma’s most improved player. In 1956 Drake was an assistant coach for the USA Senior National Team (Men) at the Melbourne Olympics.

Drake, an All-American guard, played at Oklahoma, starring for coach Hugh McDermott.

Drake was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach in 1973.
