The rules of college basketball--from player eligibility to ball size--are determined by the governing bodies to which colleges belong. The best known of the these organizations is the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The NCAA is divided into three divisions, according to size and resources. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is similarly divided into two divisions, and draws its members largely from smaller schools in the west, midwest and south. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) sponsors championships in three divisions. And all these organizations have tournaments for men and women. Over 3,300 teams compete within these organizations.
