From Hoopedia
Women's basketball has a long tradition in Europe. FIBA began the European Cup for Women's Champion Clubs in 1959. Now called EuroLeague Women, this competition has been the most-coveted championship on the European continent. But even before then, and to this day, nearly every country has their own league (and many have several) and there are regional leagues that cross national borders. Many WNBA players sharpen their skills and fill their pockets playing for European teams during the WNBA's off-season.
