You don't need a whole lot to start a Streetball tournament or league. A court. A few enthusiastic ballers wanting to play. And an organizer--someone who will do the work of planning and managing. Such small and informal beginnings gave rise to Streetball tournaments like the Rucker Pro-Am. That's how the And 1 Streetballers started out.
But trace it back. The barnstorming teams of the early 20th Century started out that way. New York's Original Celtics and Renaissance Five. The Harlem Globetrotters out of Chicago. The Philadelphia SPHAs. They all started out in musty gyms and sweltering playgrounds. But who cared about the hardships? They just wanted to play.
