Chicago Maroons
From Hoopedia
Now an NCAA Division III program, the University of Chicago was a founding member of the Big Ten Conference and, on January 18, 1896, played in the first college basketball game with five players to a side, defeating past Iowa, 15-12. Basketball was brought to the U of C by Amos Alonzo Stagg, who introduced it to the entire Midwest.
Chicago's men's basketball teams were declared mythical national champions by the Helms Foundation for 1907, 1908 and 1909. They had two Basketball Hall of Fame players on those teams, John Schommer and Harlan Page.
