Named head coach of the Silver Stars on Jan. 4, 2005, Dan Hughes earned general manager duties as well on August 25, 2005... oversees the basketball operations staff, roster development and all player acquisitions, while also coaching the team on the floor... his 2006 squad nearly doubled the franchise's 2005 win total... Fielded a young, talented team, which included five top 10 picks from the last three years... brings more than 20 years of coaching experience to the Alamo City... served as head coach of the Cleveland Rockers from 2000-03, earning WNBA Coach of the Year honors in 2001... the 2001 Rockers team were one of the best defensive teams in the history of the WNBA, holding opponents to 55.9 ppg, tops in league history, and a 38.1 percent field goal percentage, second in league history... guided the Rockers to three playoff appearances... took over as head coach of the Charlotte Sting midway through the 1999 season, leading the Sting to their first playoff series win... a native of Lowell, Ohio, has coached at nearly every level in the Buckeye State... served as assistant coach with the University of Toledo's women's basketball program (1996-97) and men's basketball program (1991-96)... has also served assistant coaching stints with the mens' teams at Mount Union College (1982-84 and (1985-91), and Baldwin-Wallace College (1984-85)... graduated with a degree in physical education and history from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, in 1977... earned a master's in education from Miami University of Ohio in 1978... he and his wife, Mary, have two children, Sara and Bryce.
