- 1929 - The New York Celtics drop out of the American Basketball League.
- 1930 - Ray Felix, 1954 Rookie of the Year and the first African American starting center in the NBA, is born in New York City.
- 1959 - Mark Aguirre, 13-year NBA veteran and arguably the finest player to come out of DePaul University since George Mikan, is born in Chicago, Illinois.
- 1971 - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar scores a career-high 55 points in Milwaukee’s 120-104 victory over Boston.
- 1986 - Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins scores 57 points against Chicago Bulls.
- 1990 - Tied for the all-time lead in college basketball victories with 1,483 each, Kentucky and North Carolina face one another at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels win, 84-81, to break the tie.
- 1992 - The Orlando Magic scores 14 three-pointers in one game, coming only two shy of the record.
- 1995 - In the first-ever meeting between two Canadian NBA teams, the Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies, the Raptors prevail Grizzlies 93-81. They are the two newest NBA expansion teams.
- 1996 - Terry Mills of Detroit misses a three-point field goal attempt, ending his NBA-record streak at 13 consecutive three-point field goal attempts made over three games.
