- 1903 - Fuzzy Vandivier, Hall of Famer who played for the Franklin "Wonder Five", is born in Franklin, Indiana.
- 1951 - The New York Rens play their final game, defeating the Philadelphia SPHAs, 57-45.
- 1964 - Coach Red Auerbach starts Willie Naulls in place of an injured Tom Heinsohn in the Boston Celtics line-up, completing the first-ever all African-American starting five in NBA history.
- 1976 - Larry Kenon (right) of the San Antonio Spurs sets an NBA record for steals in a game with eleven, against the Kansas City Kings at Kemper Arena. That record was subsequently tied by Kendall Gill in 1999.
- 1985 - Croatian star Damir Omerhodžić-Markota (known as Šveđo) is born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- 1995 - The NBA Jam Session presented by Fleer, the league's interactive basketball attraction, opens at the annual Barcelona Children's Festival in Spain, the first time that Jam Session has ventured onto European soil.
- 1996 - The Phoenix Suns send Sam Cassell, Michael Finley, A.C. Green and a draft pick to the Dallas Mavericks for Jason Kidd, Tony Dumas and Loren Meyer.
