- 1925 - On a Sunday afternoon, the Original Celtics (above) defeat the Washington, DC Palace Club, 35-31, in the first basketball game played at the newly competed Madison Square Garden. At the conclusion of the game team captains John Beckman of the Celtics and Ray Kennedy of the Palace Club, are arrested for breaking the Sabbath.
- 1968 - Waterloo University defeats Mount Allison University, 80-58, in the first game of the Naismith Classic, which has become one of the most prominent college tournaments in Canada.
- 1986 - The Seattle SuperSonics post a 136-80 win over the Houston Rockets at The Summit. The 56-point margin made it the most lob-sided road win in NBA history.
- 1989 - The Milwaukee Bucks reach the franchise's 1,000-win mark in 1,654 games, becoming the second-fastest club to attain that plateau, behind Boston, which had accomplished the feat in 1,593 games.
- 1995 - The NBA dismissed Roy Tarpley from the league for violating his aftercare program. Tarpley tested positive for alcohol consumption. Tarpley's contract was immediately deemed null and void. Tarpley was scheduled to make $3.9 million this season, $4.8 million each of the next three seasons, and $4.5 million in 1999-2000.
