Glenn Anton "Doc" Rivers (born October 13, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American former professional basketball player from Marquette University who played point guard in the National Basketball Association notably for the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and San Antonio Spurs. He began his career at one of the elite basketball powers in Illinois, Proviso East, in Maywood. Other NBA players who attended the school included Dee Brown, Shannon Brown, and Michael Finley.

After retiring from the league, he became a coach and is currently head coach of the Boston Celtics. Rivers was known for his defense while playing in the NBA. His skills as floor general and point guard helped him transition into a coach following his playing career.

Rivers took over the Boston coaching position in 2004 after spending a year working at the American Broadcasting Company as a commentator for The NBA on ABC. Prior to his job with the Celtics, he coached the Orlando Magic for more than four NBA seasons. Rivers won the Coach of the Year award during his years with the Magic.

His son Jeremiah Rivers is currently a freshman guard at Georgetown University.

The Boston Celtics named Glenn "Doc" Rivers Head Coach on April 29, 2004. The 13-year NBA veteran as a player, and five-year NBA Head Coach, becomes the 16th Head Coach in franchise history.

Rivers becomes only the fourth coach in franchise history to have earned the NBA Coach of the Year Award, joining Tom Heinsohn (1972-73), Bill Fitch (who won it with Cleveland (1975-76) and Boston (1979-80)) and Red Auerbach (1964-65) for whom the trophy is named.
