European Champions Cup
From Hoopedia
Prior to the creation of the Euroleague, the European Club championship was administered by FIBA and referred to as the European Champions Cup.
The Euroleague (or historically, the European Champions Cup) was established by FIBA. The Euroleague operated under FIBA's umbrella until the summer 2000 (the conclusion of the 1999-2000 season). In 2000 the Union of European Leagues of Basketball (ULEB) broke with FIBA, creating a new Euroleague consisting of the 24 richest European club teams (most of them from Spain, Italy and Greece). In 2001 Europe had two club champions, but after that FIBA ceded control over club ball to the UELB.
For more details on UELB, see the Euroleague article.
