- 1956 - (Above) P.S. 156 Playground opens in Manhattan. Now known as Holcombe Rucker Park, or The Rucker, it may be the most famous streetball venue in the world.
- 1968 - Wilt Chamberlain becomes first player to score 25,000 points in the NBA.
- 1985 - (Above) Bobby Knight, Hall of Fame coach of the Indiana Hoosiers, is ejected from the game with arch-rival Purdue. Knight uses an obscenity to communicate his displeasure with an official's call, which earns him a technical foul. He then hurls a folding chair across the court, resulting in his ejection.
- 1990 - Juliet Jackson hits six free throws down the stretch to give the Arkansas Razorbacks an 82-77 upset victory over the University of Texas, ending the longest winning streak in the history of women's basketball at 183 games.
- 1991 - North Carolina becomes the first college basketball team to win 1,500 games.
- 1993 - Utah’s John Stockton picks up seven assists in a 105-78 loss to Houston, becoming only the fourth guard (along with Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas) in NBA history to reach the 8,000 career assist plateau.
- 2008 - The NJIT Highlanders lose to Utah Valley State, 76-50, ending their season with a 0-29 record. The 29 losses establishes a new NCAA Division I record for futility in a season.
