At 7 ft, 2 in and 315 pounds, his physique is often compared to that of Shaquille O'Neal, especially when he was a young and raw-skilled center at The College of St. Rose. However, Joseph's skills never materialized and he only appeared in a total of four National Basketball Association games, two with the Denver Nuggets and two with the Toronto Raptors during the 2000-01 NBA season.
During the 1998-99 season, Joseph played for the Mansfield Hawks (Ohio) of the International Basketball Association under head coach Kevin Mackey. It was his first experience of basketball at the professional level in America. During much of the season, he was so unconditioned (and lacked speed) for this level of play that during the course of a game he would often stay on the defensive end of the court near the painted area and wait for the game action to come to him. Apparentely, this was an actual part of Mackey's game plan considering that Joseph possessed a strong ability to block shots and rebound the ball. Of course, when he chose not to dart back and forth to both ends, his other four teammates were disadvantaged as they had to play offense against five defenders.
