Gary Close

Gary Close is the current associate head coach for the University of Wisconsin, who coaches along with head coach Bo Ryan.
Originally from the Philadelphia, Close worked from the 1986-87 through the 1999-2000 season (13 seasons) as an assistant coach with Dr. Tom Davis at the University of Iowa, and also previously with Dr. Davis and his staff at Stanford University.
Prior to his hiring at Wisconsin, Close was head coach at Regina High School in Iowa City, Iowa where he advanced to the state tournament in each of his years there.
Known as an expert shooting instructor, Close worked with B.J. Armstrong to develop Armstrong's shot and has worked with countless other NBA and European players that advanced from his teams to the professional ranks. He learned much of his shooting instruction skills working with shooting consultant Des Flood, who he met in California while working with Stanford.
Close resides in Madison, Wisconsin with his wife Kelli and two children.
