Horace Walker

Horace Walker (b. April 17, 1938 in Chester, Pennsylvania - d. June 7, 2001) starred at Chester High School (PA), graduating in 1956. He led Chester to two Eastern Pennsylvania State Championships (1954 and 1955). He was named an All-American in 1955 and 1956 and All-State three times (1954, 1955 and 1956).
At Michigan State University Walker was named to the All-Big Ten team and a third-team All-American. Walker still holds the Michigan State record for rebounds in a game with 28. He achieved the mark in a game against Iowa in 1960. Walker also holds the Big Ten record for most rebounds in a season with 256. He averaged 22.7 points and 18.2 rebounds, which led the conference. He finished second to Jerry Lucas in the voting for Big Ten MVP, inspiring Michigan State coach Forddy Anderson to call Walker the best basketball player he ever coached. In 2000 Walker was voted one of the 25 greatest players in Spartan history.
He was picked in the second round of the 1960 NBA Draft by the St. Louis Hawks. He played one season for the NBA Chicago Packers and then played in the National Industrial Basketball League.
After retiring from basketball Walker became a successful business executive in Los Angeles.
Walker is a member of the Delaware County Athletes Hall of Fame.
