Creating An Article
- To create a new article, type the name of the article into the input box below, and then click on the Create article button.
- Go ahead and type in the content and save the result. You can preview your work before actually saving it. Keep in mind that you can always go back and modify it later. All versions of your article will be saved, so that nothing is ever lost, even if you accidentally delete something. This site is based on the same software that powers Wikipedia, so if you know how to use that, you're ready to go.
Capitalization and Images
- Make sure the spelling and capitalization are exactly as you would like it. Article names should have the first letters of each word capitalized, e.g. "Notable European Tournaments".
- If you want to add images to your article, you'll have to upload them first. Click here to learn about uploading images: Uploading Files.
Linking
- Linking is critical in Hoopedia because it allows users to easily navigate from one page to the next. If possible, all years, players, teams, and events should be linked to the appropriate pages.
- Linking Years – When linking NBA seasons, always link to the year category in which the championship falls. For example, “2005-06” would be linked to the category “2006” and would look like this on the edit page:
[[:category:2006|2006-07]]
- Consistent Linking – It is important to keep page names consistent. Variations in article titles will cause links to lead to dead pages. Some important naming conventions to remember:
School Names
- High Schools – Because of the large number of high schools, try to include the state name after the high school. Examples include “St. Joseph’s HS (NJ)” or “Oak Hill Academy (VA).”
- Colleges – Link colleges by the university name followed by the team name. Examples include “Ohio State Buckeyes” and “North Carolina Tarheels.”
- Consult the User's Guide for more information on using the wiki software.
