- 1958 - (Right) Dolph Schayes of the Syracuse Nationals scores 23 points to bring his career total to 11,770. Thus Shayes passes George Mikan to become professional basketball's leading scorer of all time. Schayes would finish his career with 18,438 points, putting him at #48 currently.
- 1960 - Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, eight-time NBA All-Star, is born in Paris, France.
- 1992 - Troy State forgets to play defense, but still prevails over Devry Institute, 258-141.
- 1996 - Boston’s Dana Barros misses all nine of his three-point attempts during the Celtics’ 105-92 loss to visiting New York, ending his NBA record streak of consecutive games with at least one three-pointer at 89.
- 2000 - (Right) Charlotte Hornets star Bobby Phills's life came to a tragic end at age 30, when he is killed in an automobile accident in Charlotte, North Carolina.
