- 1966 - Chicago is awarded an NBA expansion franchise, which would be named the Bulls.
- 1970 - Don MacLean, 1992 All-America forward at UCLA and first-round draft choice of the Detroit Pistons, is born in Palo Alto, California.
- 1970 - Steve Myers of Pacific Lutheran University hits a field goal of 92 feet, 3 1/2 inches. Officials correctly disallow the shot, since Myers was standing out of bounds under his own basket. When fans boo, however, the official reverse themselves and permit the basket to stand.
- 1997 - The first 16 players are assigned to WNBA teams.
