- 1921 - In the days before exclusive contracts, Nat Holman (right) plays four pro games in one day with three different teams: Detroit, Union City (New Jersey) and the Rochester Centrals. He finishes the day with three wins and one loss.
- 1931 - Madison Square Garden hosts the first college basketball triple-header, helping to give greater prominence to the college game. The six teams combine for only 99 points. Columbia beats Fordham, 26-18; Manhattan College beats NYU, 16-14; and St. John's beat CCNY, 17-8.
- 1931 - Temple Owls legend Bill Mlkvy, known as "The Owl Without A Vowel," is born in Palmerton, Pennsylvania.
- 1969 - Luc Longley, the first Australian to play in the NBA, is born in Melbourne, Victoria.
- 1974 - Notre Dame scores the last 12 points of the game to nip UCLA, 71-70 and end the Bruins' NCAA Division I men's record 88-game winning streak.
- 1975 - Two former UCLA legends meet on an NBA court for the first time. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar gets the best of it, with 50 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists, while rookie Bill Walton is held to seven points.
- 1985 - Lenny Wilkens becomes the first person ever to play and coach in a combined 1,000 NBA games as his Seattle SuperSonics defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 106-105.
- 1980 - Ann Meyers leads the New Jersey Gems to a 111-95 win over the Iowa Coronets in World Professional Basketball League action. Meyers barely missed a quadruple-double, finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, but only 9 steals.
- 2006 - Pat Summitt (right), legendary coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols, earns her 900th career victory with a 80-68 win over arch-rival Vanderbilt University.
