- 1914 - Hall of Fame guard Bobby McDermott, MVP of the 1944 World Professional Basketball Tournament, is born in Whitestone, New York.
- 1927 - An all-black team known as the Savoy Big Five and organized by Abe Saperstein, travels to Hinckley, Illinois to play their first game outside of Chicago. Saperstein would later change their name to the Harlem Globetrotters.
- 1951 - Just one day after playing in the longest game in NBA history, a 75-73 win over the Rochester Royals in six overtimes, the Indianapolis Olympians are defeated by the Tri-Cities Blackhawks, 83-79; each of the Olympians’ five starters play all 48 minutes.
- 1972 - The Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Atlanta Hawks, 134-90, for their 33rd straight win, the longest winning streak in major professional sports.
- 1997 - The NBA unveils a list of the Top 10 Teams in NBA History, as voted by a select media panel.
- 2002 - Anthony Johnson of the Mobile Revelers signs a 10-day contract with the New Jersey Nets, becoming the first NBA Development League player to sign a NBA 10-day contract.
