- 1986 - At the inaugural Goodwill Games, Team USA defeats the Soviet Union, 83-60, to win the women's tournament with a 5-0 record. Cheryl Miller leads the team, averaging 20.6 ppg and 9.6 rpg.
- 1999 - The NBA fined Dallas and Sacramento $25,000 each for salary cap violations. Dallas gave free agent-to-be Gary Trent and five family members an all-expense paid trip to Maui on what coach/GM Don Nelson openly called a recruiting trip. Sacramento gave 10 players an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas for a party to celebrate their season.
- 2000 - NBA player Conrad McRae (right) collapses and dies during a practice with the Orlando Magic's summer league team at the University of California, Irvine.
