- 1902 - Hall of Fame player Paul Endacott, who led the Kansas Jayhawks to the 1922 and 1923 national championships, is born in Lawrence, Kansas. He learned to play basketball from Dr. James Naismith.
- 1916 - Hall of Fame coach John Kundla, who guided the Minneapolis Lakers to five NBA titles, is born in Star Junction, Pennsylvania.
- 1999 - Right: Italy tops Spain, 64-56, to win the European Championship. It marks only the second time Italy has won the EuroBasket competition.
- 2001 - The Washington Mystics and Seattle Storm battle through four overtime periods -- longest game in WNBA history -- before the Mystics edge the Storm, 72-69.
- 2008 - The expansion Atlanta Dream lose to Houston, 72-65, their 17th loss in a row, thereby setting the WNBA record for consecutive losses.
