- 1975 - NBA Commissioner Walter Kennedy retires and becomes Chairman of the Board for the Special Olympics. Larry O'Brien assumes the post of NBA commissioner.
- 1994 - Reggie Miller (right) hits five 3-point shots in the fourth quarter against the Knicks to set an NBA playoff record. He also flashed the "choke" sign to film director Spike Lee, who was sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden. The incident established Miller as one of the league's most notorious "trash-talkers." The Indiana Pacers came from 12 points down in the final quarter to win, 93-86.
- 1997 - Michael Jordan wins game 1 of the 1997 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz with a last-second 20-foot jump shot.
