- 1890 - Cumberland Posey, player, coach, manager and owner of the Monticello Athletic Association team and the Loendi Big Five, who won the Colored Basketball World's Championship five times, is born in Homestead, Pennsylvania.
- 1978 - The first organizational meeting of the newly formed Women's Professional Basketball League concludes with the announcement that teams will be located in Iowa, New Jersey, Milwaukee, Chicago, Minnesota and Dayton. The league would last three seasons. One of the few players to last through all three seasons: Donna Orender, current President of the WNBA.
- 1993 - John Paxson (right) hits a three pointer at the buzzer and the Chicago Bulls defeat the Phoenix Suns in the deciding game of the 1993 NBA Finals; it remains the only three-point shot to win an NBA championship.
- 2006 - The Miami Heat sweep the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, 4 games to 2. Dwyane Wade is selected the Finals MVP.
