- 1972 - In one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history, the Houston Rockets trade future Hall of Famer Elvin Hayes (right) to the Baltimore Bullets for forward Jack Marin and future considerations. Hayes scored 15,551 of his 27,313 career points in a Bullets uniform, averaging 21.2 points and 12.7 rebounds over his nine seasons with the Bullets.
- 2005 - The NCAA imposes harsh penalties on the Baylor University basketball program for numerous infractions. In addition, former Baylor coach Dave Bliss is hit with a "show-cause" order, effectively barring him from being hired by an NCAA Division I athletics program for ten years.
