• 1901 - Shoe salesman and basketball evangelist Chuck Taylor is born in Brown County, Indiana. His name will forever be associated with the Converse All Star basketball shoe (right).

• 1975 - Eastern Air Lines Flight 66 crashes in New York City. 112 of the 124 passengers are killed including ABA player Wendell Ladner.

• 1992 - The city of Portland becomes the first city besides New York to host the annual NBA Draft.

• 1998 - The Milwaukee Bucks trade Dirk Nowitzki and Pat Garrity to the Dallas Mavericks for Robert "Tractor" Traylor.
