- Many NCAA Division I programs were recognized by the NCAA for their high academic standards. Six men's programs, however, are in danger of being banned from post-season tournaments because they have not met academic standards the past two years. - Missionaries introduced basketball to the Philippines at the same time as China. The Philippine Basketball Association is the first and the oldest professional basketball league in Asia. Hoopedia has an extensive collection of articles on the league's teams and players. Read more here.
- In 1897 the Amateur Athletic Union organized a tournament to determine a national men's basketball champion. They've been holding such tournaments ever since.
