- 1901 - In-state rivals Purdue and Indiana meet for the first time. Purdue wins in Bloomington, 23-19. They would win each of their first nine meetings before things started to even out a bit.
- 1955 - (Above) Allen Fieldhouse, new home of the Kansas Jayhawks, hosts its first basketball game. The Jayhawks triumph over rival Kansas State, 77-66.
- 1973 - Chris Webber, University of Michigan "Fab Five" star and first player chosen in the 1993 NBA Draft, is born in Detroit, Michigan.
- 1978 - John Drew of Atlanta commits 14 turnovers in a game at New Jersey, an NBA record. (Jason Kidd of the Phoenix Suns ties the record on November 17, 2000.)
- 1996 - Atlanta's Lenny Wilkens becomes the first coach in the NBA to reach 1,000 career victories, as the Hawks down the Cleveland Cavaliers 74-68.
- 2008 - The Fordham Rams women's team loses to George Washington, 66-27, completing its regular season with an 0-29 mark and setting the NCAA women's record for losses in a season.
