Today is the 46th Anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain's 100 Point NBA Game
- 1896 - Hall of Fame coach Clair Bee, who made Long Island University a national powerhouse in the 1930s, is born in Grafton, West Virginia.
- 1926 - Holcombe Rucker, who used basketball as a tool to help guide disadvantaged New York City youth, is born. Holcombe Rucker Playground in Harlem, one of the most famous streetball courts in the world, is named in his honor.
- 1951 - The East defeats the West 111-94 in the first NBA All-Star Game, held at Boston Garden. Boston's Ed Macauley scores 20 points, and holds George Mikan to 4-of-17 from the field to win the MVP award.
- 1962 - Wilt Chamberlain (above) scores an NBA record 100 points in a 169-147 Philadelphia Warriors win over the New York Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Chamberlain shoots 36-of-63 from the field and 28-of-32 from the free throw line, to go with 25 rebounds. His 50.4 ppg scoring average in 80 games during the 1961-62 season remains an NBA record.
