- 1945 - NYU battles back from a ten-point deficit with two minutes to go to send the NCAA Tournament national semifinal game into overtime. NYU pulls it out in the extra period, winning 70-65. At the time a team got one free throw when fouled near end of game, but could elect instead to in-bound the ball. Ohio State is fouled three times, opts to shoot the foul shot and misses each time.
- 1956 - Bill Russell tallies 26 points and 27 rebounds, leading his San Francisco Dons to an 83-71 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes. The win earns San Francisco their second consecutive NCAA Championship.
- 1962 - Cincinnati upsets Ohio State in the NCAA championship game for the second year in a row. The Bearcats' 71-59 victory is paced by center Paul Hogue (right), who scores 22 and grabs 19 rebounds.
- 1973 - Nate “Tiny” Archibald of the Kansas City-Omaha Kings becomes the only player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring (34.0 PPG) and assists (11.4 APG) in the same season.
- 1979 - Michigan State ends Penn's Cinderella run, crushing them in the National Semifinal game of the NCAA Tournament. Magic Johnson leads the Spartans with a triple-double: 9-for-10 from the field and 11-for-12 from the foul line for 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
- 1979 - Indiana State gets to the NCAA Championship game by squeezing past DePaul, 76-74. The Sycamores rely on Larry Bird to do the heavy lifting: 35 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists.
- 1980 - Louisville upsets UCLA, 59-54, to win the NCAA championship. Louisville coach Denny Crum had been a long-time assistant to former UCLA coach John Wooden.
- 1990 - In the East Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament, Christian Laettner sinks an off-balance jumper at the buzzer to stamp Duke's ticket to the Final Four, beating UConn, 79-78, in overtime.
- 1994 - Askia Jones of Kansas State scores 62 points in 28 minutes (including 14 threes) against Fresno State University in the 1994 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) quarterfinals. The Wildcats win, 115-77.
