Marty Headd was a key member of the Syracuse Orangemen team that boasted players like Eddie Moss, Danny Schayes, Erich Santifer, Leo Rautins, and Tony Bruin. Coached by hall of famer Jim Boeheim, the team would make it to the NIT finals and lose to Tulsa.

In the 1981 NBA draft, Headd was drafted as the 22nd pick of the 9th round by the New York Knicks.
