- 1926 - Bill Sharman, elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1976 and again as a coach in 2004, born in Abilene, Texas.
- 1932 - Hall of Fame guard K.C. Jones, who teamed up with Bill Russell to win two NCAA championships and eight NBA titles, is born in Taylor, Texas.
- 1963 - Brazil beats the USA, 85-81, to clinch its second consecutive FIBA World Championship. Yugoslavia takes second and the USA settles for fourth in the round-robin tournament.
- 1993 - John Starks drives baseline and dunks over Horace Grant and Michael Jordan in Game 2 of the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals between the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks.
- 2002 - Paul Pierce (right) outscores the New Jersey Nets 19-16 in the fourth quarter to help the Boston Celtics erase a 21-point deficit in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The 94-90 victory remains the biggest comeback in NBA Playoff history.
