- 1943 - Hall of Fame coach Billie Moore, the first woman to coach two different college teams to national championships, is born in Westmoreland, Kansas.
- 1969 - Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics win their eleventh NBA title in 13 seasons, outlasting the Los Angeles Lakers, 108-106, in Game 7 of the 1969 NBA Finals.
- 1993 - In Kevin McHale's last NBA game, Alonzo Mourning makes a 20-footer from the top of the key with 0.4 seconds left to give the Hornets a 3-1 series win over McHale's Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the 1993 Eastern Conference First Round.
- 1995 - Clyde Drexler scores a game-high 41 points and Hakeem Olajuwon adds 40 to lead Houston to a 123-106 win over visiting Utah in Game 4 of their Western Conference First Round series. It marks the third time in NBA Playoff history that a pair of teammates have scored 40 or more points in the same game.
- 1995 - The Orlando Magic defeat the Boston Celtics, 95-92, in the last basketball game ever played at the fabled Boston Garden.
