NBA Cares
From Hoopedia
NBA Cares is the league's social responsibility initiative that builds on the NBA's long tradition of addressing important social issues in the United States and around the world. Launched in October of 2005, NBA Cares, through the teams, current and former players, and the league office, has contributed 302,000 hours of hands-on service to the community, raised more than $50 million for charity, and created 171 places where kids and families can live, learn or play. NBA Cares works with internationally-recognized youth-serving programs that support education, youth and family development, and health-related causes, including: UNICEF; Reading Is Fundamental; Habitat for Humanity; Boys & Girls Clubs of America; Feed the Children, Special Olympics, KaBOOM!, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and many others.

Education
Read to Achieve
As part of the NBA’s global community outreach initiative NBA Cares, the league's Read to Achieve program aims to combat global illiteracy and encourage young people to develop a life-long love of reading.
Reading Programs and Events
The NBA Family wants kids to love to read and wants adults to love to read to kids. As a team, we participate in read-alouds and other shared reading and on-line activities at schools, community-based organizations, at our Read & Learning Centers or Reading Corners, in-arenas, and wherever else it is possible to read!
Youth & Family
Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA encourages youth basketball participation through programs that stress basketball fundamentals and the value of sportsmanship and teamwork for players, parents, coaches and officials.
Health
Basketball without Borders
Basketball without Borders is designed to promote friendship, goodwill and education among young people through sport.
Nothing But Nets
NBA Cares has partnered with the United Nations Foundation on their new initiative, Nothing But Nets, a grassroots campaign asking individuals to donate $10 to "send a net, save a life." Each $10 donation pays for an insectiside-treated bed net, distributes it to a family in need in Africa, and provides education on proper use to prevent malaria. Please visit nothingbutnets.net to find out how you can send a net to save a life!
