NBA Finals
From Hoopedia
The NBA Finals is the championship series of the National Basketball Association.
The team winning the Eastern Conference Finals earns one of the two berths in the championship round, with the other going to the team that wins the Western Conference Finals. This event has been played at the conclusion of every NBA and Basketball Association of America season in history, since the first BAA season, in 1947.
Since 1985, the Finals are played under a 2-3-2 best-of-seven playoff format: the team with the best regular season record hosts the first two games on its home court, the next two games (or three if necessary) hosted by the other team, with the final two games (if needed) returning to the home court of the regular season winner.
The winner of the NBA Finals is presented the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy at the conclusion of the finals. The series was originally known as the NBA World Championship Series; it was renamed the NBA Finals in 1986.
