NBA MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Selected by vote of NBA players until 1979-80; by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada since 1980-81. The balloting takes place at the end of the regular season. The NBA MVP trophy is named in honor of the late Maurice Podoloff, the first commissioner of the NBA, who served from 1946 until his retirement in 1963.
