Nera White

Nera D. White (born November 15, 1935 in Macon County, Tennessee, USA) is a retired American basketball player. She is considered one of the most outstanding female players in history.
She attended Macon County High School, where she started on the high school team as a freshman. In 1954, as a senior, she was named most valuable player for her high school district; there was no girls' state tournament at that time.
She was named AAU All-American for 15 years in a row from 1955 to 1969, and she led the Nashville Business College (NBC) team to the AAU national championship title ten times during that period. She also led the US National Team to the world championship in 1957 and was named the tournament MVP.
White was the first woman basketball player to be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992. She was also a member of the inaugural class of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. In 1969 she was elected to the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. Her hometown of Lafayette has named the high school gym the Nera White Gymnasium in her honor.
