- 1947 - Wat Misaka, of the New York Knicks, appears in a game against the Washington Capitols, thereby becoming the first non-white to play in an NBA game. Misaka's parents were Japanese immigrants.
- 1964 - St. Louis Hawks Hall of Fame forward Bob Pettit becomes the first NBA player to score 20,000 points.
- 1979 - (Above) Darryl Dawkins of the Philadelphia 76ers breaks his first NBA backboard in a game against the Kansas City Kings at Municipal Auditorium.
- 1983 - Hall of Famer John Roosma, who starred on several of coach Ernest Blood's legendary Passaic High School "Wonder Teams," passes away at age 83.
- 1985 - (Above) Lynette Woodard becomes the first woman to play for the Harlem Globetrotters, scoring seven points in one-and-a-half quarters of action in Spokane, Washington. Woodard, who captained the 1984 Olympic Gold Medal team, spent two years with the Globetrotters.
- 1987 - The Washington Bullets beat the New York Knicks, 108-101, mainly because they sink 60 of 69 free throw attempts, setting NBA records for a non-overtime game.
- 1998 - William "Red" Holzman, who won two NBA championships as a player and coached the Knicks to their only two NBA titles (in 1970 and 1973), passes away at the age of 78.
