From Hoopedia
- 1938 - NBA legend and Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson (above), the only man to average a triple-double for an entire NBA season, is born in Charlotte, Tennessee.
- 1943 - Hall of Fame guard Dave Bing is born in Washington, D.C.
- 1949 - Don Otten of the Tri-Cities Blackhawks sets an NBA record by committing eight personal fouls in a 120-113 loss to the Sheboygan Red Skins. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Tri-Cities led the league in personal fouls per team that season, and holds that record to this day.
- 1949 - The Syracuse Nationals persevere over the Anderson Packers, 125-123, in five overtimes.
- 1960 - Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia Warriors pulls down 55 rebounds in a game, setting the NBA record for rebounds in one game. This exhibition takes place against the Boston Celtics, led by Chamberlain's arch-rival, Bill Russell. Russell had set the previous record of 51 rebounds just nine months earlier.
