"The Game" in 1907.
- 1901 - (Above) Near Baltimore, Maryland, elite prep schools Bryn Mawr School and St. Timothy's School play the first girls' high school basketball game. Bryn Mawr survives, 8-7, taking home the same silver cup awarded to the winner to this day. At the conclusion of "The Game," as it is known, then, as now, all participants shared tea and chocolate cake.
- 1990 - Two new NBA franchises, the Charlotte Hornets and the Minnesota Timberwolves face off for the first time ever. The Hornets defeat the Timberwolves 85-73.
- 2006 - Ben Wallace of the Chicago Bulls is benched in a game against the New York Knicks for wearing a headband. He was allowed to return to action when he removed the headband. Team rules prohibited the wearing of headbands.
